Throughout Europe there are organisations taking the lead in cancer research and patient care. Advocating for patient rights, research and education, their aim is to provide crucial information to patients and medical professionals and the public.

The European Association of Urology (EAU), a valued partner of the European Cancer Patient Coalition, is one of those organisations. They are the leading authority in Europe on urological practice, research and education within Europe.

With over 16,000 medical professionals working with them to promote urological care, who are they and what are they doing for patients?

In acting as the representative body for Urological patients, they believe that every patient in Europe should have access to the highest quality patient information. There is a lot of content available on the internet and some of this comes from trusted sources, but there are some that are not reliable and tend to be biased. Recognising this, EAU set a goal to provide reliable sources of patient information on the internet to make a meaningful contribution to the network of trustworthy sources for patients and their carers.

Despite there being a wealth of information available, the second challenge can sometimes be communicating its existence and availability. May people active in patient care and patient information are not aware of high quality materials that are developed by EAU.

The development of these guidelines is one of their core activities and patients, patient organisations and medical professionals need to be made aware in order to benefit.

There is a range of material about prostate, bladder, kidney, penile and testicular cancer as well as general information about cancer and how to cope with the disease. With some featuring videos and leaflets in a number of different languages, each take into account the existing scientific evidence, experience of medical experts and nurse’ as well as the views of the patients.

Providing trustworthy information, with patients at the core, empowers individuals to take control of their own health and enables them to make informed decisions throughout their journey. With this in mind, EAU continues to develop their content to the highest standard with, and for, patients. We encourage you to read, download and share this valuable information to see how you and those around you can benefit.
